Weather - is Fun (sometimes)

My buddy is Austin Tx just sent me a note, they lost power this morning, it’s roughly 10deg, and he has almost 8" of snow! More than we have in Columbus Ohio!

Got a couple inches in Houston.

Running 2000 watts worth of generator that’s running internet, sattelite, tv and an oil radiator heater.

My house and my parents have power. My brother is hanging by his fireplace 'cause no power in Pearland either.

The green parts of our power grid aren’t producing in the state. Wind and solar aren’t producing. I ran out to Home Depot this morning. No power there. Line about 100 people long to do escorted shopping. I passed on waiting in line to buy enough bits to power the house off the larger generator.

My fingers are crossed . Our infrastructure is NOT designed to survive these conditions for the amount of time we are facing.

Before we bought our place they had an outage that lasted almost a week. Right away I said no way and set us up with a gen set.
I know this is common sense, but I also know that doesn’t always kick in very fast. From someone who has survived many winters let me point out the obvious, you don’t need to worry about your freezer running when it’s freezing outside. You just need a cooler to put it in to keep the critters out of it.

19 here in Alvin. Power still on. Sure hope it’s the greenie weenies that are freezing. ERCOT reports loss of power from froze up wind generators as being a major factor in the rolling blackouts. With Texas being one of the largest coal, oil and natural gas producers in the country there’s no excuse for this. Quit bowing down to the greenie weenies. We’ve been blessed with coal, oil, and natural gas here. LETS USE IT.

Its 18 here with 6 inches of snow. It’s still snowing. They call for another 6 inches Wednesday. This is huge for northwest Louisiana. If the temps stay down it will be here for days.I still have power with a 9000 watt generator fueled up and ready. It will run enough stuff to get past this mess.
Stay safe and warm folks

Holy smokes guys. Stay safe and stay warm. Maybe going green wasn’t a good idea?

Negative 8 and sunny. Just another day. It’s been cold for a week now and people are sick of it. But on the plus side a few years back they were all worried about the emerald ash borer killing trees and found out that sub zero weather hinders population or even kills them off.
So I guess we can complain all we want, but the planet is just doing what is best for itself. Can’t really complain to much about that.

32*F wet and soggy here in Western North Carolina @ 3,200’ elevation. We had snow and lots of ice recently.

My solar panels are making minimum power…no solar hot water…no wind power the past few days…I’m in energy conservation mode so I don’t have to use the expensive loud propane generator.

Driveway is steep and very muddy now.

Sun and wind coming tomorrow…then more crappy weather.

Need to cut more firewood…after things dry up a bit.

Nature has no sympathy for now…just like the price and availability of ammo…:rage::boom::boom::boom:

Be safe ALL…:v:

Crazy weather. Sorry to hear about the problems everyone is having.
We barely have a foot of snow here and it’s only weeks until spring.
We had a few short cold snaps, but for what it’s worth, IMO this is the mildest winter I can remember.
Stay strong and safe. :+1:

Snow is the best part of winter !!!
We are supposed to get 6-9" overnight. I told all my guys in the shop without 4x4, ill be out cruising around pulling cars off the side of the road, and out of ditches at 4am. Just waiting for callins and i’ll pick them up on the way. Too much work to do, for taking a snow day.
7 seats comes in handy sometimes.

My snow rig

My truck has mud grips. Figured tires with more siping would do better on the icy roads to my inlaws. Only a few miles away from my house. Had fun in the back of their 40 acres in it too. The old rover is impressive… I have a 4” lift for it to install soon… can’t wait for it to not look like an old lady ride.

Super Z LT traction cables are excellent in snow and on ice. Just don’t go above 10 MPH!
I have the same set for 21 years now.

Here in Fl. we don’t have the snow and ice but we’ve had severe thunderstorms with damaging winds which is extremely rare for this time of year. Looks like we had what’s termed here a microburst on our church property. Branches ripped off trees and part of the fence around our well torn down and no other damage found so far. Heading to the roof soon to scope that out.

Sunny and temps are going down to freezing now in WNC.

Solar hot water has been cranking nicely ALL day.
3:30 PM and pumping down over 160*F to a 120 gallon “hydra stone”lined tank with dual 20 sq./ft. Copper heat exchangers…:sun_with_face::sunglasses:

I recently redesigned and rebuilt the system after 21 years…still finishing things but it’s back online…:v:

Well apparently me noticing the windmills weren’t turning was important. Lol
Today, sunny, not quite as cold but still cold, windmills are turning but the wind is really low. It changed direction and is trying to push the cold front back north now.
