Taming the AR12 shotgun

AR format, nice. Magazine fed, nice. 12 gauge, nice. Recoil, not so nice especially with a lightweight version. I’ve been trying to find some recoil reduction for this version, but not finding anything specific. Mainly, an AR 15 isn’t an AR 12 when it comes to recoil. But that’s all there seems to be out there for recoil pads. Anyone have any experience along these lines?

Add weight.

Either to the gun or to you.

  1. have your chamber reamed with a long forcing cone reamer. If your shotgun does not have a chrome lined barrel it is an uncomplicated task. The change causes the barrel to transition from case size to bore size gradually. The usual chamber looks like it has a curb at the front.

  2. If you reload, change to a slow powder like VV110, or LilGun. I have went as slow as Reloder 17. It burns at about the rate of IMR4350 but will mostly combust at shotgun pressures.

3)install a dead mule in the stock behind the recoil pad. It is an inertial device that slips in the hole where the stock screws into the action.

  1. use minimum choke constriction.

This is a Panzer G4. From what little I’ve read, the G4 is lighter than the G3 by a bit. As for adding weight to me? No, I have enough ballast thank you. The gun is new and under warranty, so alterations are off the table at this time unless it can be bolted or screwed on. The gun needs high velocity rounds to cycle reliably, so slower rounds won’t help. I intend to shoot mainly slugs so the cylinder choke will live in it. Thanks for the replies.

I have a bullpup that kicks like a mule too. My solution is to only shoot it sparingly because it bruises the crap out of my shoulder no matter how hard I pull it in to me.

Fun fact: I was once hit in the should with a baseball bat. Didn’t bruise me. This gun, however? A 10 Rd mag dump will leave a 6" diameter bruise.

I figured I can hit a quarter at 200 yards with a rifle so surely I can do what needs done with a shotgun at 25 yards even using irons.

I had a major shoulder reconstruct 30 years ago from a crash. Even now, it’s still a little tinder.

Another option

Sir, you might be out of luck.
If your not able to work out the recoil, maybe consider another firearm with next to nothing in the recoil department.

Limb savers are fantastic, combined with everything else legal, still kink of might have some kick to it.

Best of luck in your quest… :+1:

How do those work? Do they work well? Sure my .223 doesn’t kick much BUT when I put the .458 upper on her…

Gotta know more about this black magic of which you speak…

I would suggest a linear brake for the 458. A baffle style is deafening. I shot a 450B 7.5” with a single baffle brake and WOW. Reminds me of the 70’s song, Blinded by the Light. The linear looks like a flash can with a baffle in the front. It makes the weapon quieter from the shooter’s perspective.

This Turkey shotgun, though it looks like an AR, it isn’t. Built quite different, like bass acwords. So conventional remedies don’t always comply. The Triple F system that Thatoneguy suggested could work depending on the differences between the G3 and G4. A clamp on muzzle break won’t work because of the forward barrel shroud. However, a screw in choke/muzzle brake from Carlson should work. I haven’t disassembled the gun yet so I don’t know what is behind the recoil pad. As far as other high-power rifles, I can shoot a 300 WM all day long out to 1000 meters.

I have a decent brake on it. Can’t imagine no brake! Even with the brake she kicks as hard as my 12ga

Still no joy trying to find a screw in muzzle brake. It seems to be an oddball metric thread pattern. Looks similar to a Rem Choke which has a 32 TPI but not quite. Diameter is slightly smaller also. I can get 3 turns on a Rem Choke, then it binds up. An internet search for choke tube dimensions didn’t reveal any dimensions. just shot patterns.

Won’t work. The outside of the barrel is not threaded, and the end is inset in the barrel shroud. Has to be screw in, not screw on. This is what it looks like: Panzer Arms AR Twelve G4 Tactical 12 Ga Semi-Automatic Shotgun 18.5 (midwayusa.com)

It’s a 12ga.

Embrace the power.

I found the Benelli mobile choke tubes fit my Turkish citadel boss 25, and the rifled one sticks out the muzzle maybe 3/4". Be a good place to start a compensator mod. Be kind of cool having hot gasses AND SHOT coming out of the baffles!
This is a picture of the Citadel, looks a lot like the Panzer

I’ll bet those Turkish warranties are golden! I hacked mine up the moment I got it, trigger group, folding AR stock, Cerakote…
