Sub 2000 factory sight replacement

@Kenk,

Discussion and tools translate easily from Chris’ muzzle brake discussion here:

I did not use a specialized tool. I protected my barrel with a towel, grabbed it with offset pliers and twisted the sight off w/o damage. But MCARBO makes a tool if you prefer.

Yes, watch that Mcarbo muzzle break installation, I purchased it and the “V” blocks for the vice, I wrapped my barrel with blue painters tape about 4 times. The trick is to tighten the vise up very tight, as tight as possible, my barrel started to spin, I had to retighten the vise a couple of times, otherwise you will scratch up the barrel and the serial numbers on it.

Also in the video they mention the “V” blocks are indented to contour to the barrel. My blocks were machined smooth/flush and my barrel was not tapered. I’m assuming this video was for a Gen1?

Good luck, and keep it tight!

Thanks TT, is that in regards to removing the factory front sight?
Thanks

It’s installing the muzzle break. It shows you how to vise the barrel with the V blocks.

Search YouTube on how to remove the front sight. But it looked to me like most of the videos were for Gen 1s but just keep searching.

Thanks, that’s what I’m finding as well. Hopefully someone will chime in that’s done it

Dunno where you’re getting this idea. The video I linked is clearly a gen 2. Gen 1 did not have threaded barrels FYI.

Gave you all I got - twice now. Best of luck

Well the ones i viewed were plastic and needed to be taken off with a heat gun and left a lot of plastic and what looked like glue or cement behind. I don’t believe it looked threaded.

Hope that clears it up.

If you still have your factorr manuel it tells you how to remove the sight on the Gen2 series. If not go to Keltecs site and look it up. Don’t know if the newer manuels have changed.

Had the Redlion front sight installed by Kel Tec factory gunsmith on 2/15, (along with the Mcarbo trigger upgrade and fast deployment latch), what he found was the Mcarbo quick deployment latch got jammed against the Redlion sight, and the sub got stuck in the folded position. We could not get it opened. So Kel Tec had to remove the Mcarbo rapid deployment latch and replace it with the factory one in order for it to work/fold with the Redlion sight. I’ve contacted Mcarbo tec support and made them aware of the situation. But Kel Tec said the Mcarbo fast deployment latch can be modified and could work with the Redlion sight. It just needs to have some material removed, but it might make the latch harder to grip. I’ll post their response once I hear back from them.

Just FYI for anyone doing both.

Thank you, I’m waiting on the the new latch to be delivered, and was planning on ordering the RL front sight. It will be interesting to find out what needs to be done so the quick deploy latch and the RL work together properly

I have the Red Lion front sight and also the larger latch on my gen 2 and haven’t had any problems with them working fine together …

Ya might wanna make sure the front sight is in fact vertical when installed on the barrel ?
I dunno …

The sight look straight, I’m not saying the Kel Tec gunsmith is not capable of making a mistake, but putting the new sight on should be very routine for him. I also looked everything over and can’t see how the sight is installed incorrectly. The Mcarbo fast deployment latch’s end tabs just stick out too much and jammed the thing tightly closed.

Can you please post a photo of your subs sight with it folded against the latch?

I would be interested in seeing pictures of that also. I did order the M* latch, but haven’t installed it yet. Not sure if it was here or some place else, but it sounds like the RL sight might work fine with the M* latch as long as the sight isn’t folded down, then again, my source may be totally wrong :joy:

That’s what I thought but, It didn’t matter if the sight was folded or not.

I should’ve taken a photo before he took the latch off and put the OEM back on, but I wasn’t thinking!

Great thing to know, Thank you!

Anyone out there had success modifying the M*Carbo latch to function properly with the Red Lion sight?
Thanks

@Kenk pictures of the issue would be extremely valuable…

I’ll try to take a look at mine and get a couple of pics in the next couple days …
