Stop the damage from the shells hitting the shell deflector

Hello all, I know that this is petty, but I want to stop the damage from the shells hitting the shell deflector on my shotgun.
I’m thinking about adding a self-adhesive felt pad to the deflector, thoughts?
Will the felt get too hot during practice?
I could glue on a piece of leather instead.
What say you all?

Nothing too petty about that, Welcome to the show Ray. I think leather may be the better idea.

Material wise i agree, leather would be better. The adhesive, i would be concerned about letting go with heat.

Thanks guys, leather it is!

I’d say leather as well. As above, adhesive becomes the weak link. Room to rivet a piece on? Possibly brush a layer of undercoat onto it?
Welcome to the party!!

piece of cloth impregnated rubber would be even better. wouldnt hold moisture.

I started thinking about a piece of oilskin.

Ran across these on Amazon. They seem rather proud of them price-wise so I’ve not tried them:
