Quick tip for storing guns like the M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, Mini-14

We don’t seem to have a general gun tips and tricks category so I just put this under “all firearms”. Anyway, I was putting away the carbines from yesterday’s range visit and thought I’d share something I do in my gun locker. For guns with open rotating bolt actions with op rods, a really easy way to jack up another gun in your collection is catching the op rod handle on it when removing or replacing a gun. Save yourself the trouble, head to your local hardware store and pick up a few of these for a few cents each, or if you’re like me, you might already have some in your hardware stash…

Thread protectors. 1/2" seem to work well for the Garands, 3/8" for the Carbines. The 1/2" also seem to work on Mini-14’s, though the fit is not quite as snug as on the Garands. Pop one on the end of your op rod handle and you should be good to go. :+1:

EDIT: Now that I think about it, this could probably work on anything with a side charging handle.
