…and I do like the grip panels on that Colt. Looks good and usable for larger hands, unlike most revolver grips. I love wheel guns but find most traditional grips not so functional for my freakish mitts.

That’s a gem there.

Yes, the original grips were not to my liking either. My hand kept sliding too far up and it turned into a knuckle buster. The finger grooves help hold my hand in place. Made by the same company (Altamont) anyway. So it was a natural fit.

Interesting you mention these as typically I’ve not been a fan of them…they just never fit my hand. That said, the rubber replacement grips I put on my 686 are finger groove but made a massive difference in usability for me…and actually do fit my hand, not-so-coincidentally. I loved the look of the factory wood grips and they felt good to hold, but to use was another matter.

I’ve heard many people say this. Especially when talking about the gen 3 and 4 Glocks. So everyone was happy when Glock deep sixed the grooves on the gen 5. I must be one of the lucky one’s. Because all these finger groove handles seem to fit me fine.

I know what you mean here. My original King Cobra 357 had the rubber grips. It never hurt my hand like this one. In fairness, I was 25 years younger. That may have had something to do with it too.

I know this and I’ve never heard of one breaking-on any brand but… I simply can’t abide a plastic piece when a steel replacement is available. Saw some TiN ones the other day @ Lakeline LLC. Stainless works just fine for me but that gold is just a bit too blingy… They got TiN barrels and mini-comps, too for anyone into it.

The reliability pertains to cycling without malfunctions, not breaking. I’ve never heard of one breaking. But some aftermarket springs may have issue cycling the slide correctly / reliably.

@hunter1916 I vote for leaving it like that. Looks beautiful. How does the finish feel?

@Gbauer it feel smooth but not like it would slip trough your hands

I second that. I like the way it looks.
You could let it weather a little then add satin finish.

The OEM is certainly plenty reliable, no argument there, unless youre doing a meltdown test. Aftermarket springs having issues are moreso related to customers selecting the wrong spring weights. Switching from .40 to 9mm conversion barrels has taught me that.
The biggest benefit to a metal guide is that it doesnt deflect like the plastic does, and has more weight in the muzzle end, which makes a big difference in followup sight acquisition.
I can feel a difference for sure.
:wink:And they look better…
