Do I really need a flashlight on my Sub2K?

I Pretty much have every upgrade on my new Sub2K. I’ve been thinking about outfitting it with a tactical flashlight, however, I keep asking myself do I really need one? If I ever came upon a situation where someone, stupid enough, breaks in to my home, my 9mm pistol is readily available for me. I don’t think there would be a time where I would have the luxury to access my Sub2K, get it out of its storage bag, unfold it and put it into action, all of this while it’s dark out or in my home.

So my question is to you guys & gals, is it really just an accessory that enhance the look and feel, (which I totally get and love), is it used often, or is it that “just incase” scenario ?

The New Gun Brick works on accessories too. Since you’re new here, I’ll let @TexasEskimo clue you into this awesome decision making tool. It’s helped me out of more than one jam.

The rule for guns and accessories is that if you can convince the spouse you should buy it. If you can’t convince the spouse the gun brick will not save you.

Im so glad ive never had to worry about such issues. Soon as they start thinking they decide where my money goes i kick em to the curb. Of course that does mean sometimes i get a little reckless with the wallet. And have kicked myself more then once for being frivolous with funds. The great thing about firearms and accessories if you do buy something and it doesnt quite work for you later there is allways somebody else who will buy it from you.

I know a guy that uses his sub instead of a .22 for night coon hunts. Flashlight totally legal, and well used. Otherwise i agree, its just a decoration until SHTF

Probably a much more humane method of dispatching coons.

I’m still undecided. I also ditched the idea of hanging a bipod off my Sub. I didn’t want it hanging on the front all the time, or take up room on the rail because I have a MP foregrip that takes up enough room already, so I settled on a tripod. I’m thinking the flashlight might get in the way of the tripod.

I like carrying a light in my off hand. Maybe PVS14 and FLIR Breach head mount instead. No need for a light on your foldie then.

Near never use it 'cept to confirm laser still marks the hole punch location. So, it’s more than just a light. Inside 20 yards, bright green dot marks the future hole location. Dot and irons sighted for more range.

If used as a home defense, bump in the night firearm I suggest taking a look at this from Olight. Space saver and functional. Good quality. My sub doesn’t have a laser, but this lights up the night and will disorient your uninvited guest for a brief moment. JMHO

Do that instead. Oh and my foregrip is also a bipod.

I decided to throw everything on mine because why not?

Honestly Iove using that thing on my S2K. I bought it for my shotgun but, to be fair, I don’t shoot it much because she bruises me. One of two guns that do: 12ga bullpup and my .458 SOCOM (thank God I have a brake on THAT one!).

I had the foregrip/bipod on my AR along with a 1-6x Vortex scope and a small laser/light combo but it got ridiculously heavy so I started moving things around. Swapped foregrips and here I am.

(.22, .223, 12ga, 9mm going top to bottom)

The thing is the S2K is so light adding stuff doesn’t really make it too heavy to handle.

The laser is clear in full sun out to 25 yards, clouds out to 50 and anything else depends more on your eyes than the laser. I also have a 3x prism scope so I can probably see it further than most if I’m looking through that.

Long story short: she’s fun as hell to mag dump because you can just look at the target and pull the trigger as fast as you want and it’ll hit the green dot all day.

Now the other part about that particular laser is the aperture is adjustable. Meaning with a half twist it’s now a green flashlight. Even comes with the pressure switch you see me screwing with in the video.

Good times!

I looked in to that Stalk Tech NH01 hunting laser designator, wow, very nice! I might have to pull the “trigger” on that!

I went to stalk Tec’s website, but is it just a laser a light or both?

Its both. You can adjust how wide it throws the green light. Its not going to light up like an LED. More like the laser loses coherence and gets wider.

I haven’t opened it up at night in wide angle though. Just around my house. At about 20’ it’s about 3’ wide and very bright.

Its meant for hunting bore. Recommend to me by av avid night hunter. That guy has more in optics than I have in my cars and that’s saying a lot. He has a couple night vision scopes worth 5 grand… Each. Serious hunter and he highly recommend it.

And I agree. Best laser for the money. Cheap ones are gimmicks. This thing is the real deal.

That sounds pretty freaking awesome!, now you’re really making me want one! It seems like a large device. I’m guessing most people are top mount on the Picatinny? I mean, you’re not gonna need or use or need irons or a red dot with that thing, it’s not necessary, correct?

Irons are always necessary.

Honestly it’s secondary to a red dot. If you were using it as a flashlight you can’t use it as a laser at the same time.

Mount it on the bottom like mine and you’re good to go. Its not that bad.

Anything inside 10m with a defensive weapon, I point shoot. Outside of 10m I am not so sure about the defensive part. Regardless, beyond 10m I use irons, peeps, ghost rings and the occasional scope. Scopes mainly for work not self. Call me old school, I will use my metallic sights till I can no longer see them.

Without a flashlight you will never shoot straight.
Absolutely need a flashlight.

Number one: a flashlight IS needed so you don’t shoot your kid sneeking in late in the dark. You wake up groggy and foggy eyed confirmation is needed before you pull that trigger in your own home. My Sub is open and ready for my home defense with this un-opposing laser light combo.

All good “points”, and some funny ones too!

Except my 4 kids are adults, I have 5 grandkids, coming home late is their problem, payback! Lol
