Getting ready to install new CGW parts in my Shadow 2

While getting some group therapy yesterday the stock of my 03-A3 cracked. I felt it, not a confidence inspiring feeling. I am astounded at the absurd prices for parts these days, beat up unserviceable even worse shape than mine are getting premium prices. I managed to find a NOS never issued replacement…don’t ask. The crack…

@Festus Glad you found a replacement, but could it not be repaired using five-minute epoxy or better yet, epoxy putty? I understand the desire for a pristine stock and am just curious.

I’m quite sure it could be repaired and most likely very easily as you’ve suggested. As you know by now counselor, I have OCD and with that, no way I would ever trust it after a repair. I think it would just crack again, either above or below the crack it has now. It represents a weak grain and will continue to fail IMHO.

Go with the first explanation. Modern glues are stronger than the wood itself. lol

What does the rest look like? Maybe refreshing the metal is in order?

Something worthy of thought. For now, it’ll have to be on hold, blew this and next month’s allowance.

How deep is the crack? Full thickness or chips coming out? Looks ugly.

It didn’t chip, stopped shooting when I felt it happen. Runs all the way to the tang, so when I take it apart for the new stock I’ll know if it went all the way to the pillar or not. The new stock is coming UPS and I hear of a strike, figures.

So the chip stopped at the tang and remained attached after the receiver was removed.

Now, the rest of the story. The damaged stock is a Beechwood reproduction. Here’s the difference between the two, the darker is the NOS never issued.
